Why Would YOU Buy Art ?
In my opinion there are mainly two types of art collector out there; the art collector who falls in love with the artwork itself, and the art collector who over-thinks it.
Let me explain……
When it comes to buying artwork, (I am talking predominantly about originals here but not exclusively,) to me there should be one over-riding reason you choose to buy the artwork.
And that is love.
If you love to admire the art and it touches you on some level whether you can put that into words or not, then that is what truly matters.
Of course I understand there are art-buyers who are out there to ‘make an investment’, and I understand that, the world is propelled by money, and we need money to survive. But money and the accumulation of it is not the ONLY reason for living and being, it is just one part of our lives. So just be careful not to talk yourself out of your initial love of a painting in favour of the idea that ‘this painting could be worth 10 times as much in 10 years’. Because if you purchased that artwork with the incentive of ‘investment’ and you hang that artwork on your wall everyday; then you are choosing to worship money more than what’s truly in your soul.
So when it comes to purchasing a piece of artwork; don’t over think it. Don’t talk yourself out of it and deliberate over whether the artist is well-known or formally trained or wether it’s hung in a prestigious gallery or being sold from the artist’s studio. Because when it comes down to it, you have to ask yourself;
What truly matters to me?
Love or Money?
