I am hosting this solo exhibition in Norwich from 14th - 20th September - everyday 10am - 6pm.
When everyone is spending so much time on social media trying to show their artwork to large audiences and hack the algorithm, there comes a time when you lose sight of what you are doing. When I first started my artist career in 2009 Instagram didn’t even exist and nor did all of the headache and exhaustive behaviour surrounding it. I am returning to doing a face to face exhibition where I don’t have to perform down my phone lens, but instead I can just show you my paintings as they were meant to be shown. Just you - admiring the art for what it is.
I have been painting now for 17 years and I am completely self taught beginning at 22. I established my own distinctive style of vibrant geometrical paintings of Norfolk Landscapes, yet I also continue to explore and diversify creatively to explore other styles.
It’s been 2 years since I hosted my own face to face exhibition, and since then I’ve been busy in the studio working on commissions and new paintings. But I want to get out of the studio to directly present my collection of paintings so I can share the inspirations and stories behind the paintings.
As a self taught artist I have previously used unconventional items to create artwork, from floorboards, to surfboards, to painting using sand and coffee. I found myself working in unconventional ways because for me there was no set map on how to become a “conventional successful artist”. I just explored my creativity and looked for gallery opportunities wherever I could - I eventually established a strong sales presence of my work. I would urge anyone who has a passion or interest to persist in trying, and to also look for unconventional opportunities to find your own path to success. I like to inspire people to remain optimistic and resilient in their own quests.
I will be displaying a selection of original paintings, from pop art styles to subtle dreamscape styles and other originals in gold leaf. My paintings are inspired by Norfolk coastal scenes and woodland areas. I will also be showing a range of limited edition prints, inspired by Norwich, Norfolk & beyond!
