The Artwork’s Story:
(Based on Norwich)
What does it mean To build Castles in the sky? To create dreams, hopes, or plans that are impossible, unrealistic, or have very little change of succeeding. As children we’re advised against our outlandish ideas, we’re told:
Don’t live your life with your head in the clouds, as you’ll be destined to build castles in the sky.
Don’t live your life on the side of caution, go do it anyway…….who knows what beautiful plans of yours will flourish, and if some fail, then at least it was a beautiful journey along the way. But you have to be outlandish in life, you have to dream big. So dream BIG.

The Artwork’s Story - It’s a grey rainy day in Norwich, but it’s broken by the sunburst coming in through the gaps in the cloud and reflected below in the wet path. This creates drama and depth to the painting, and draws you into this surreal and dreamlike landscape.

The Artwork’s Story - The ultimate celebration of this Fine City of Norwich, featuring a couple walking down the avenue of the market square on the idyllic Summer’s day. I’ve included the two lion sculptures that sit either side of the city hall and the cathedral spire is shown in the distance as well as including a yellow building with the lettering ‘Colmans Mustard’ being a fine export of Norwich’s past. The more you look at this piece the more you see, and the couple are wonderfully framed in the painting as they embark on their journey.

The Artwork’s Story - This depiction of Norwich is deliberately nieve and stylised to resemble an illustration from a favourite children’s book we were read to as a child to create a sense of nostalgia and wonder for the world. There is beauty and charm in simplicity.
