Cromer Artist Samuel Thomas celebrates his favourite North Norfolk Location.

Cromer on the North Norfolk coast is the home town of Artist Samuel Thomas. He celebrates the distinctive charm and vibrancy of the Victorian seaside town in many of his optimistic pop art paintings. Cromer was voted one of Britain’s favourite seaside towns, and you can see why as we explore these beautiful artworks. Samuel Thomas explains his collection in his own words below:

In the summertime we see the beach flock with tourists who enjoy walks on Cromer Pier, or the end of the pier show. We even have a surf community and therefore I have been commissioned to paint surfboards celebrating Cromer as shown below:

In the early mornings down on the seafront you will see the fishermen going out and returning with their early morning catch.

You can enjoy the local seafood in many local restaurants.

When the tide rolls out at sunset it creates a mirrored expanse, I have been commissioned to create paintings of Cromer sunrise and sunsets as well as client’s favourite sunsets elsewhere. I sometimes use gold leaf to create something stunning and atmospheric as shown here:

Walking the shoreline means you can hear the North Sea crashing in, in my painting titled ‘Breaking Wave’, I captured the sound and the power of the North Sea waves in my signature pop art style.

Back in 2021 we even had the icon that is Banksy visit Cromer and add one of his graffiti artworks to the sea wall. This was part of Banksy’s ‘Great British Spraycation’, and I captured the story in this painting below:

In the early morning sunrise you can be completely alone down on the shoreline apart from the local fishermen on their early morning catch.

And during sunset you can escape the crowds if you head away from the pier where the promenade ends, for peace and tranquility. As shown below from this viewpoint.

You can enjoy a long tranquil sunset reflected in the vast expanse of we sand as the tide rolls out. As shown above.

Other picturesque spots include the viewpoint from the North Norfolk Cliff top path that leads down the hill and into Cromer. A timeless and romantic spot, as celebrated below in this artwork.
